These sort of threads are always good for stirring up emotions. Ever consider that it's the law that's dumb? Why not do some real research and find out how the law came to be; who voted for it and why. Seems to me that the intent was to find a way to deter trash and other debris people often toss on the floor usually within a few feet of a trash container. Clearly there's a gap between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.

The Metro police were merely enforcing existing laws because they were ordered to crack down on certain actions.

I find it amusing how so many people claim to be law-abiding citizens yet allow their emotions to cloud rational thinking when it comes to topics as these. Of course, this opens the floodgates to what happens when people don't pay attention to who runs for office, the type of agendas they advocate and the type of legislation we'll have to live with once they're elected. But I digress.
