More likely though DL will want you to connect via ICN. What's the point of connecting via a spoke in Japan when your JV partner has a hub with good regional connectivity? (Ignoring whether or not you want to fly KE in the first place...)
Also, for CI specifically (if Taipei is your destination) you can also do the short leg in North America and then connect to one of CI's n/s (JFK, LAX, SFO, YVR, or even HNL or ONT). (Again ignoring whether or not you want to fly CI in the first place, or whether delta.com will offer it up for sale.)
DL connect at HND through CI or ANA, not JAL. It's the strangest thing when CI usually partner with JAL, but DL would ticket the flight with ANA. I'd have to spend the night. I've done this quite a few times. I have customers not too far from HND, so I tried to make a dinner meeting to make my time useful.
The good thing out of this aside from able to see my customers for dinner, is the amazing JAL lounge (if I fly CI). The food there is amazing.
