Platinum does get benefits at Aria and Bellagio, like express check-in and express taxi queues, which can be significant time-savers. True, but these are "Vegas benefits", in the sense that they really only are valuable in Vegas or other similarly massive hotels.
Those being precious about their "elite benefits" probably are talking about room upgrades, late check-out, free breakfast, etc.
