(Enter DFW weather to scramble that up.) I don't know what time of year you're flying so it's hard to comment on that. If it's a reception you absolutely must attend/not miss, I'd fly in earlier or the day before. (I'm assuming you're flying AA). It's flight AA36 that you might want though, that would get you in at 9:05am Madrid time / leaves DFW @ 4:40pm the calendar day prior.

When you arrive at T4S, you'll have about a 5min walk to the connections/onward flights. This can be reduced to 2min with a swift sprint. It's just past the bathrooms where you can freshen up a bit if you have time. DO NOT FOLLOW the masses that go into the main part of the terminal, this will take you outside security where you may very likely botch your connection.
