I arrived at my hotel in LHR last night having flown in from MAD to find my suitcase that had been in the hold was open. I had checked it in with the TSA combination lock set. It had been very obviously forced open to the extent that it will no longer close.
I could not see any of the contents missing but they very obviously had been gone through with every item that had a zip like soap bags, make up bags, shaver kit, etc opened and left opened with the contents just stuffed back into the case randomly.

I've had bags opened before, that I know off, and always there's been a little official
​​​​​note to say so but not in this case. Also in the bottom of the case were dozens of little balls like you get inside the little packs of silica gel you sometimes get with electrical goods. Except these are not they. They're grey and hard, almost stone like. Can't think what they are.

Anyone care to surmise what's gone on here? Was this some official inspection, looking for something in particular. I don't believe I was carrying anything I wasn't allowed to.
