If I were on a nine hour transfer and intent on finding my own room and shower, I'd want to maximise my down time.
In short I'd make my own arrangements to avoid the inevitable faff and waiting around at the airport, and the early trip back to the airport. The airport hotel might be eye-wateringly expensive, but there are very comfortable, reasonably priced hotels within 15/20 minute's drive of the airport.
