If you miss the DL flight, you can do SDC if the same fare class is available for $75 (with no DL status) or more realistically SDS (standby for any coach seat), also for $75 charged if it clears. This assumes that your DL flight is nonstop as otherwise there are complications.

If you're doing the same on the reverse, without status you're at more risk of a bag being gate checked by DL. If this happens, there is no chance that you can retrieve the bag and get back through TSA airport security in only one hour.
