For those occasions when you really want to know where you are and your airline no longer seems to care enough to provide that to you, try the "Fly Over" app. It shows your location, speed and altitude.
I only found out about it on the weekend, and haven't tried it out yet in the air, but works off GPS and seems to give you a load more info on what's around, or more precisely, underneath you. Seems to help if you pre enter your route on the ground so it can load extra info.
Is this on iOS? Can't seem to find it. Any chance of a link?
