I didn't notice this thread, I am originally from the Aberdeen area, CO with KLM has 2 bad points for me:

1. Always more expensive
2. Really old 747 from IAH-AMS!

Anyway, I went home with the family in June returned in July, had miles for the kids but was looking for std. reward. Got IAH-EWR-MAN.
Most car rentals are no-limit on miles, so no problem there, it's a 777 to Man, so better comfort factor there. As far as the drive, well it's breathtaking. The lake district, Stirling.....need I go on! I did have the luxury of taking my time on the road up. I stopped for the night at the Hilton Dunblane Hydro (in Dunblane, funnily enough!) Check this place out at the Hilton site, it's top class! I stayed for free with Hilton points (great value here, 20k points a night! Even the Hilton agent booking it for me couldn't believe that's all it was)

Off topic but we all flew back in BF and it was A-1.

I hear AF has good fares, my sister is coming to visit me at the end of August and got ABZ-CDG-IAH return for 249 UK pounds
