I don't know if it's been brought up here before, but it seems that Staples has decided that since chip means no liability, they have pretty much waived signatures. I didn't have to sign for exactly $50 today, nor did the lady ahead of me who seem to be charging significantly more than I did.
Keep in mind that even merchants without EMV can waive signature for non-Visa right now if they wanted. Of course, it's probably logistically better to have similar policies across networks.
