I do agree that there surely has to be a market for a better J product than what airlines in Europe are delivering right now. It'll be interesting to see how EI do with their new A321LR J class to Europe (outside of onward connections - strictly in an O&D sense).
Agree with the sentiment, for a short euro hop I'll just take the most convenient flight, essentially I see them as busses that fly and my expectations are set as such.

Where I can make it work I'll take the Eurostar to Paris, Amsterdam or Brussels and have been known to take the overnight boat from Hull. Both obviously have time penalties over flying but are much more pleasurable ways to travel and I get work done while travelling so it balances.

Not sure a out a high end service on short haul, I won't pay for J for todays offering, if there was something better then I'd consider it on those euro hops over 2 hours.
