Hyatt Place Ocean City, Maryland REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

What a surprise.... This property is a brand new hotel and while it is very much like other new HPs, it has some extras that are truly nice - such as an indoor and outdoor pool, plus restaurants/shops on the ground floor.

It's right across the street from the ocean - no more than 500 feet from the crashing waves. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful.

I booked 2 rooms using a combo of points & free night awards. Both rooms were upgraded to ocean front and the view was beautiful. I also received a welcome gift basked of fruit, chips, and trail mix. I've never received a gift at a HP. We received breakfast for both rooms.

The room was a typical HP room with the bed(2) on one side and the sofa on the other. The nice bonus was a comfortably sized balcony with 2 chairs and a table between. Unfortunately, it was so darned hot over the weekend that our time spent there was limited. The A/C worked very, very well. Thankfully

It is also pet friendly, and our little 8 pounder loved being on the balcony looking at all the people going by. BUT, seems Ocean City is not pet friendly - no pets on the boardwalk at any time during the season. Restaurants with outdoor tables are also not pet friendly, which I found odd. I've yet to run into one that does not allow pets outdoors.

Unfortunately, we had to leave 1 night early, leaving our friends with 2 rooms, but we definitely will be back, for no other reason than to enjoy that ocean front view. It is hard to find a cat 1-4 HP in that type of location. It's nearly a resort property and at first glance, I thought it should be a Regency at a minimum, and then I realized they would have to charge a fortune for it (rooms in summer start at $450) and I don't think the demographics of the area would be able to carry that sort of property. FWIW - off-season rates are around $100 a night
