For context, I live a block away and commute by the hotel every day on my way walking to and from BART. I travel extensively throughout the US and while the area has challenges and may not be comfortable for everyone I don't find it that different to locations I've stayed at with Marriott properties in many other major US cities in terms of people on the street or the overall neighborhood situation.
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend going for a stroll down O'Farrell after midnight, but the location is no worse than the Hilton downtown, or various other properties on the edge of the Tenderloin for that matter
From the website descriptions, this property seems to have extremely small rooms . . . that would be my bigger concern (assuming the location was convenient - note that it's a very long haul from the nearest BART station).
