Sadly, many of the Asian airlines have also started on this BS, including NH, JL, and even SQ (depending on fare class). It is already standard for just about all of the EU airlines, as well. This is the new normal, and one of the few areas where NA airlines are actually leading the pack (in a good way), but not for much longer.
