You misunderstand me, waterhorse. No fear or ignorance involved
i don’t believe that the neo is inherently unsafe. However neither do I believe that Boeing is an inherently unsafe manufacturer, or that airbus is an inherently safe manufacturer. I believe they are both competent and working to industry standards
that a post manufacturing issue has been noted with the max, in spite of apparently acceptable levels of simulation and testing, is of course unfortunate. However the issue has now been found and is being addressed
there is nothing to stop a similar (not necessarily related) issue coming to light post manufacturing with the neo.

I find the never ending binary cycle of “airbus scarebus/if it’s not Boeing i’m not going” (and now v.v) rather tiresome. A lot of folk that say they’re never setting foot on a Boeing are going to suffer significant cognitive dissonance the next time an airbus has an issue (and it inevitably will).

At the moment we seem to be in some kind of bizarre parallel universe where Boeing=bad, as the reaction to Dreamliner fire extinguishers demonstrated a couple of months back

A couple of years ago I was approached by a doctor working in broken hill who was concerned he should never again use Rex (an Australian regional airline operating Saab 340s) as one had lost a propeller in flight. Unfortunately owing to said doctor’s incompetence and lack of social skills he had been unable to find employment anywhere more mainstream, so I asked him how he was proposing to commute between Sydney and broken hill if not by Rex. He replied that he would walk. I told him that was fine, but that I couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t be hit on the head by a falling propeller!!
