Concerto

I find it quite interesting that there is a range of totally new hotels in the Ruhrgebiet area of Nordrhein-Westfalen. They are:

HIX Oberhausen
HIX Mülheim an der Ruhr
HIX Wuppertal - Hauptbahnhof

I will be glad to check them out, even though they are not so far from home here.

The Oberhausen one is up near the Centro shopping mall, where much of the heavy industry was located. It's near the Gasometer, Schloss Oberhausen and the Rhein-Herne canal.

In Mülheim it's located well and truly downtown, near the main bridge over the Ruhr river. There are a number of really good museums in Mülheim as well as boat trips on the river up to pretty Kettwig.

In Wuppertal it's also well and truly downtown, at the main station. Apart from the strange Schwebebahn, a sort of futuristic overhead metro system, there is an opera house and the Pina Bausch dance company.
