Moreover, once you earn miles with United, say, you can't then transfer those miles to Air Canada or Lufthansa or any other Star Alliance partner. It just doesn't work that way.
Please clarify what you mean? A flight I was looking at, which is a 3'rd party carries thru their stair alliance program, was 55,000 points thru Aero and 70,000 thru United. Transferring points is 1:1 to both places, only issue is Chase can't transfer to Aero, where AMEX can.. But it's still 1:1
