How do everyone like using the Arashiyama area as a base? I know it won’t work for me since most of the bars and restaurants I like are walking distance from the RC but am curious what others do. Do you find it inconvenient to live in the Arashiyama area since it takes half an hour to get to Gion even by taxi?
We stayed two nights in Gion and two nights in Arashiyama and that worked for us. I think having to go east every day would become a hassle, but... Suiran would probably be worth it. Haven't been to the RC to compare (we stayed cheap in Gion)
