Shame Dublin does not fly direct to IAH as I assume under preclearance the bags would be checked through and be held overnight in the domestic terminal - which begs the question why AA will not accept them at the bag drop only at flight connections.
That's not how it works. The 12 hour (10 hour) rule applies whether the bags are international or domestic. If precleared, check in staff at DUB would refuse to check the bag beyond IAH and they would be delivered to the carousel there.
