On a wider point, if someone genuinely cannot emotionally/physically/financially cope with a delay of a number of hours in a modern airport terminal then perhaps international air travel isn’t for them. If, on the other hand, it’s just an inconvenient pain in the a**e then you have my sympathies.
Before others inevitably pile in, I am not ‘having a go’ at the OP, just airing my views. FT is most helpful when we have a range of opinions rather than just parrot back platitudes. I know I have personally benefited most from reading different viewpoints to mine.
I think some people are taking the ‘how will I cope’ comment just a bit too literal. Yes, I have chronic pain and I am in pain now from the flight + excessive delay. Did I die? No. Did I actually expect to combust or explode while waiting for the plane? No. Was I genuinely worried about how much pain I would be in and for how long? Absolutely.
I always appreciate different viewpoints, I just think it’s a bit whack to be this judgemental on a first world problems forum such as this, but maybe it comes with the territory.
