This is definitely not the first time I was told they do not; I have been told so on multiple occasions including one where the agent immediately knew what I wanted to do on an upfare. Unless somebody has specific evidence to the contrary, I am going with story that they cannot take 2 credit cards for one ticket (split the cost of a P fare across two cards, for example).
