There's nothing comparable to the high floor views in other 5 star SF hotels (esp. since the FS and StR hotels are
below high floor condos rather than above offices), and the service seemed to be pretty good as Loews. The panoramic views from the sky bridge on each floor between half the rooms and the elevator the are just stunning.
After they renovate all of the rooms, if it isn't a "light refresh" I suspect it'll make it quite desirable. The current hard product is not gonna win any awards but it's all right (especially compared to peer 5 star hotels in SF, where you aren't spoiled for choice). The things that really stand out to me: the bathroom's red marble looks dated and thermostat looks like something from the 70s. The furniture and wall paper and stuff that's easy to replace I'm be expecting they'd refresh to something sleek.
The Bear & Monarch restaurant needs some work IMO. They opened in April 2018 after renovating the interior. I tried them in Feb 2019. The new interior looks sleek but the menu was strange and the execution uneven. It's hard for hotel restaurants to complete with SF dining, but I'd settle for "overpriced but everything was solid." If you believe Michelin guide, Campton Place can hold it's own, and Luce was good under Dominique Crenn (who is now a Michelin powerhouse), and I heard Ame was worth a visit but never went there before it closed.
