You could fly to HNL and then fly HNL to JHM Maui. Much easier airport to arrive at. OGG to HR Maui is a good 40 minute drive. From JHM it is 5 minutes.
We stay at HR Maui for a month every February.
The hotel is OK.......grounds are good. Club is great. Rooms are OK.
Maui is a great island.
I wouldn't do day trips to the other islands.
You waste too much time at airports, IMO.

Thanks, this is probably a one time trip to Hawaii and we are staying about 15 nights
My wife wants to see other Islands so maybe we will stay at HR Waikiki all 15 nights and pick one other Island to visit for 2 nights.
Possibly stay at the HR Maui for 2 or pick a hotel closer to OGG.
HR Waikiki looks great to me but was worried about the bad reviews we read here, tripadvisor reviews are almost all good.
I'll look into JHM, do you know what airlines fly HNL/JHM as we were going to use Southwest (OGG) for our Island flights as we have a ton of points and Companion pass.
We are paying in points so is the club at HR Waikiki worth an extra 7k Hyatt points (27k vs 20 k) per night as I'm not sure how much time we are going to spend at the hotel.
