I am flying FRA to JNB on SA, then flying JNB to Lusaka on Airlink. Tickets were purchased direct from SA (though purchased separately so they are not one itinerary).

Is it legitimate to expect that for the first flight I’ll have no trouble taking my small suitcase and backpack aboard with me?

And for the second flight, will they do a “gate check” or equivalent for the suitcase? I’m assuming that plane is too small to fit it inside the cabin.

Also, do I understand correctly that I will not get SA lounge access in JNB because it’s not given for Airlink flights? If that’s the case, is there an Amex or Priority Pass lounge you recommend where I could get a shower in?
