I've flown 1 million + miles, and have NEVER been towed to the gate... today, our pilot (sounding as surprised as I was) announced that the gate was so tight that we had to be towed in... can't say if in my 100+ JFK trips, that I've been in gate C70 but very strange nonetheless.
I don't fly out of JFK that often, but I've been towed into a gate at least twice. It seemed to me that the gate was in a corner and extremely tight on space. The bell dings and people get up and start unloading the bins as the flight attendants are screaming that we are on an active taxiway and won't begin the tow until everyone is re-seated. Always fun.
