If you had status, AS generally has been excellent in my experience in accommodating Elites. If not, a simple now show is probably the best route to go. As mentioned, a last minute schedule change or an oversell may give you opportunity to get a refund. AS has even changed the name on a companion ticket for me on a return segment and made me the primary traveler.
