I also had my luggage damaged by Eurowings. Were you successful in getting the 15 euro/USD reimbursed for the evaluation?
Are they allowed to deduct from the replacement value based on the age of the bag? It seems pretty unfair to base the deduction on the bag age instead of the condition of the bag. If I read this correctly, once a bag is 5 and a half years old, they won't pay you anything for the damage even if the bag was only used once. I'm not saying that's my situation, but it seems arbitrary, and I'm curious if the EU regulation allows for that.
The email I received stated:
Since the purchase price at that time is more than 150,00€, we have to ask you for an expert opinion. For this you can visit a specialist shop of your choice. The appraisal should contain the following information:
-Confirmation that suitcase is beyond repair
-age of the suitcase
-Original purchase cost or replacement value
-Expert Opinion creation fee (receipt) - for this we will refund a maximum amount of 15,00€ ( or USD)
If a repair can be done, please send us a repair invoice. This will be 100% refunded.
In the case of a total loss, we will deduct from original value 1.5% from the date of purchase per month until date of damage.
