Were the stays where you got free club lounge access many years back when IHG rewards was still called "priority club" and platinum status actually still meaned something ?
I've never heard of this type of generous upgrade in Japan with IHG.
In general Japanese hotels are notriously stingy with good upgrades and even more stingy with free club access, unless the hotel points rules strictly say you are guaranteed a certain benefit.
