I did not know that! I obviously got rather lucky then with my last minute random train purchase on a Thursday morning when I decided I'd go spend the weekend in a new country Thinking about it though, I also got the same train back... are you sure they're still so rare? I think the line I was on was every 2.5 hours or so, and it was indeed quite a long one to somewhere quite far off.
