JULY 4

Took Metro to Archives/Navy Memorial station at 7th St NW and Pennsylvania Avenue and walked the two blocks down to the parade route on Constitution Avenue. Ended up walking all the way up to 15th St, near the reviewing stand, for a decent location for photos. For the first half of the parade I stood behind some folks that were seated, but they bailed due to heat and humidity and I was able move closer to the street the second half.

Side streets were blocked off by military vehicles and there was a heavy National Guard/Military Police presence along parts of the parade route. The section I was in had police from adjoining counties, some of whom were heavily armed.

The parade began with a motorcycle unit from the Metropolitan DC Police.

After the police, members of the military. This is very similar to past years, as was the rest of the parade.
