I see it this way: 100$ GC means no WOH points to earn, whereas 5k points means I would have had to spend 1k$ to earn them. In my view picking the 5k points is a no-brainer.
The degree of acquisition difficulty is irrelevant. All that matters is the value you'll get from one vs. the other.
Most of the 5,000-point Hyatts I run across are in the $75/night range.
