Because GS members take their families on vacation, the same as anyone else.

UA never really intended upgrade certificates to be used on business travel. Some people do use them that way, but that wasn’t the point of the program at all... so if UA is opening PN space for GS members on international flights, it stands to reason that it’s because they expect GS members to be using them for personal travel.
