We had zero problems. In places like Plovdiv and Sofia that receive tourists we found everyone in customer service had excellent English.

The only people I met that didn't speak English were the monks at Bachkovo Monastery

(Which by the way is a must see! Combine it with Asen's Fortress and some gorgeous waterfalls behind the monastery! Makes for an epic day
