A few notes:
1) Fuel surcharges ("YQ") to/from Asia aren't nearly as bad as they are to other destinations, I wouldn't necessarily make a non-YQ airline a "hard requirement"
2) When flying from YYZ to Southeast Asia, you can route both via the Pacific and the Atlantic (see the mini-RTW thread for examples)
3) Non-YQ airlines that I would recommend / consider include EVA, Turkish Airlines and Swiss. If you're lucky, also Singapore Airlines on intra-Asia routes and on the IST-SIN route.

Its good to know the YQ is lower to S/E Asia. I will definitely check out the Mini RTW thread.
The internet tells me Singapore Airlines has the best J class... so if anyone can help me find a routing that includes it would be a great help! Can anyone speak for the quality of business class on Turkish or Asiana? I keep seeing those as options but haven’t flown them.
