Head to toe in Tartan. Must be Ex-BCAL then?
Call Centres are very dear to my heart as this is my area of specialism. I've worked for the Call Centre industry for around 15 years. There are many reasons why Scotland is a popular location. Initially there were multitudes of government grants available to offset the closures of the steel, shipbuilding and mining industries. Over time the quality and lower cost of employment made sense to employers. Surveys have shown that in certain areas, particularly Financial Services, that the warm Scottish accent is more trusting than other UK regional accents. For example: would you by a financial product from someone who sounds like Del Boy?? Another factor is the availability of multi-lingual staff. Places like Edinburgh and Glasgow attract lots of foreign students on gap years and general travelling. They can easily find work in the Call Centres that handle call from all over Europe. As BA have found there is also a lot of highly educated students looking to make a bit of extra cash. In fact, BA has a small call centre in Glasgow University that acts as a satellite of the main Executive Sales site in Glasgow.
I could go on but I’m sure you get the drift.
