Similarly, I'll be flying LHR-YYC-YEG on the way back. What about standing by free for an earlier YYC-YEG with luggage if I put in the standby request in LHR (if even possible)?
In both cases, the transfer times are sufficient that I don't care enough to actually pay for a confirmed change, but catching an earlier YOW-YYZ / YYC-YEG would certainly be nice.
Standing by for a early YOW-YYZ shouldn’t be an issue (subject to fare rules) as the check-in agent can put standby tags on your bag in YOW.
Standing by for an earlier YYC-YEG likely won’t be possible as the LHR agent won’t have a way to tag your bags as standby and in YYC you’ll do OSS and not reclaim bags. You could try to short check your bags, but I’d advise against it.
