Tall people tend to slump a bit more in airline seats because they're not really designed for tall people. My head is entirely above the headrest in many Y seats. Also, basically any type of lumbar support or anything is way too low.
If people recline to quickly, it can really hurt if your knees are in certain spots. That doesn't justify it, but it could cause it. Always look behind you before you recline and do it slow.
They aren't designed for short people either and can be extremely uncomfortable.
I guess we just have to make a choice between slouching and reducing your leg room or put up with the unsuitable head rest height, just like having to make choices in other aspects of life.
People who do recline need to be considerate towards the person behind them and do it slowly so that it won't end up hurting them or unduly inconvenience them (like knocking a glass of wine out of their hand by doing it fast), and if there is a dispute, settle it in a reasonable, adult manner.
Personally, I can't remember the last time I reclined where it would impact anyone else. Maybe 4 years ago?
