I'm just about the biggest Le Méridien fan out there, but that being said...
Reviews for this property as a Viceroy were getting weaker with time - lots of complaints about the corridors and size of the rooms as well as severely limited space [i.e. no closets, only tiny ones above the beds] and lots of wear and tear, although there have been particularly nasty reviews about rude, attitude-ridden staff who just don't give a d_mn. The restaurant and rooftop bar are outsourced and operated by the Gerber Group, so technically they're not the hotel's restaurants, hence the dancing around the already loose Bonvoy rules. The renovation of the lobby and fitness center in March to May happened to the detriment of guests of both Viceroy and Le Méridien, so unless the owners/Marriott better orchestrate the planned room renovations then they risk irking more of their guests. If the staff truly are problematic, then this is a far bigger issue requiring serious correction.
Sigh, not off to a good start, this.
