Not sure what to make of Woodford.

Some years ago they had Audi Q7s in their fleet. That's a car that I rather like, so I sent them an e-mail to ask whether they could offer a vehicle guarantee should I make a booking, as the "or similar" (Mercedes) did not appeal to me. Never got an answer. Tried again, with the same result.

A while later I was walking past the JNB car rental offices, and decided to pop in to ask the question in person. A handful of customers were at the counter. All immaculately dressed in expensive suits, and all demanding the newest, biggest shiniest cars with the most bling, despite having no advance reservations. I would have put my money on white-collar criminals or representatives of corrupt governments, which boils down to the same thing. The Woodford agents could only offer whatever they had available, which apparently was not good enough. The various suits would not take no for an answer either. Very entertaining. I also managed to get another agent to answer my question: the Q7s were leaving the fleet, and would not be replaced. Since then I've had no reason to rent from Woodford.
