AF flight delay and EU Regulation No 261/2004 compensation

I was booked on AF on both legs of BOM-CDG-LAX. The first leg has been delayed by 5 hours and 5 mins. That also shifted my connecting flight from CDG-LAX by 6 hours.

I am assuming I am eligible for compensation per EU regulations.

I have never had any experience with filing claims with any EU based airline. Any comments or insights would be appreciated.
