However, I did read couple reviews where the refund is round trip minus one way cost, so many decided to change flights instead of refunding as you won't be getting back 50%. You will also be valid for the $250 compensation provided that you have applicable receipts to compliment your delayed/replaced flight (where you have to be inconvenienced for more than 6 hours).
Thanks, that is helpful (though very disappointing if true). It's been impossible to get through call centers but it seems like flight change is the best option.
