The problem that seems to arise is whether a WTP product is seen as Economy Plus or Business Minus, this was part of the OP's decision tree, and airlines generally try to blur that line in terms of marketing, Virgin Atlantic particularly so but with a product that is stronger than most. Broadly if the mindset is "this is an economy product with the worst aspects of economy remediated" then I think one is nearer the mark, so bigger seat, more leg room, more overhead locker space, slightly better food and drink (ie Prosecco), better power options, one extra checked bag and slightly larger IFE screen. BA's specific problem - though other airlines have it too - is the big equipment variations (with about 5 gradations) within that context, but the USP above still apply.
