I had no issues in row 1 on the flight to KUL. In fact we liked being at the front. I see why people might prefer row 2 for the feeling of more space in front of you but we didn’t feel that it was at all tight. I would do row 1 again given the choice.
There seemed to be a much narrower end to the 787 seat in 1EF compared to a 777 window seat where I can sleep easily on my side. It felt a lot more like a foot coffin but without the top to the coffin. Next time I’d definitely try for window seats. The problem as non-gold is that 1AF are blocked for Gold and 2E (I think?) is blocked for a bassinet and so 1EF is the only real choice for a couple. Also the seat control buttons were so worn you couldn’t read what they did and the corner of the table leather was ruined. TBH my favourite F is still 777 window seat or 2AK on 747. Not flown A380 though.
