Some more questions I forgot to ask: the website is showing 27 pounds for the bus ticket. Could it go higher than that? If not, would it not be a better option to purchase once I am at the airport? Or is it always better to purchase ahead?

The Bus Ticket office is depicted as being next to the Costa’s and baggage reclaim 8 at LGW South. The
link in the Wikipost to the Nat Ex coach station information has links to Nat Ex coach stops with interactive maps, ticket kiosk and machine information, etc.
Advance purchase gives you an extra cost option for a flexible ticket. Buying on arrival may entail a queue.
