There's no advance price discount. I have always bought the ticket on the day at the time. It's just that it takes a few minutes to find the ticket desk and of course you might have a queue to suffer. I can't help with the current arrangement of the ticket desk (I haven't done LGW/LHR for a while since for some reason all my recent trips have been LHR/LGW)
