Yikes. That is what I meant. You might be up the creek then. If the CIBC Visa had cancellation insurance you'd have been fine, but I think all of those policies require that your account is active and in good standing. Also, (and I could be wrong on this) IIRC the cancellations fees may have to be charged to the same card. You could try calling CIBC and explain the situation and see if they'll cover the cancellation costs if you're able to provide a doctor's note, etc. But first check to make sure your CIBC card had cancellation protection as IIRC some of the cards with lower fees don't provide this protection.
Someone posted on here a long time ago that you should never cancel a card with travel insurance until after your trip is complete.
