I called AA and the lady is the rudest customer rep person I have ever spoken to, even by AA standard. She said, what will a flight do if there is an emergency at 30,000 feet, divert! Oh, how reassuring that is, emergency diversion before the flight takes off. Also asked to speak to a supervisor, and was told that there is no supervisor.
So, instead of going to LAX, stuck in St. Louis now???
If you have not yet departed, you can ask AA to rebook you, perhaps on DL, perhaps on UA. If you end up in STL for the night, AA is obligated under their conditions of carriage to put you up for the night at AA's expense. If you want to call AA, you might have better luck by calling AA's Off-Schedule Operations (OSO) number: 800-THE-EGGS.
