I'm not sure exactly about Thai but the rules are not the same across the Star Alliance. For instance, you will earn status bonuses (i.e. 100% for 1P,1K) on all US flights worldwide and on LH trans-atlantic flights however you will get no status bonus on most other *A carriers at all. US segments also definitely count toward premier but a call to UA MP may be a good idea to find about Thai segments. The page on the UA website isn't completely clear:
