500 mile electronic upgrade do not work to upgrade flights to Europe, Asia or South America.

Only way you'll be in J is if you buy a business class fare (even discounted), upgrade a coach fare with miles or VIPs or if you are OP-upped (rolled forward for free if coach is oversold).

B fare and Gold status? Could happen, but don't count on it.

Upgrades to J from full fares are only 10k miles each way, not 25k.

Odds of the OP-up for you are probably million to one. Don't count on that.

If your company will buy miles for you, go that route. But you might be exceeding AA's limit on the number of miles you can purchase.

Look for a discounted J fare if you are planning ahead and staying over Saturday night (hard to tell from your post if you are).
