Over the last couple of weeks I was looking to go from YQR to FRA or MUC and back using AE points in early July. I looked several times a day on the app and on the website and what I noticed was that inventory would come and go, sometimes on the same day, and availability varied between the website and the app. Routings were completely varied (via YVR, YYZ, FRA, and other places). I was looking for some fairly specific dates, but if I had been more flexible I could have found something quite quickly. As it turned out, I got the return out of MUC on LH and AC on the day I wanted and ended up booking Westjet/Condor into FRA on the out leg as Condor had a good price on business class (I’ve never flown Condor and booked with trepidation, but it was only about 800 Euro for their near lie flat product for the one-way segment). As I’ve got LH’s very nice A350 business product on the return I’ll suck it up on a Condor! I was probably actively searching for about 10 days (literally 5 minutes in the morning and 5 at night, so not too onerous). So, my advice is to search frequently for what you want and to book as soon as you see availability.
